SportsViz Ltd is a company with a radically new approach that grew out of ground-breaking research at Swansea University as part of the Welsh Governments Collaborative Industrial Research Programme. Initially funded to undertake research over a three year period into the application of advanced computer visualization techniques for the analysis of video data in sports analysis, the project worked in collaboration with a number of leading sports analysts across the UK. Key partners were the Welsh Rugby Union, Terry Griffiths (former World Champion and leading coach) Matchroom Snooker and the Quintic Consultancy (leaders in professional golf analysis) .
From this research and under the guidance of our commercial partners, the project produced a number of exciting and innovative new technologies to help transform the process of turning analysis data into useful and interactive information from which coaches and players can better understand their performance and gain that ever elusive competitive advantage.
SportsViz specialises in bespoke solutions, working in partnership with our clients to understand their needs and then produce solutions that are quite simply ahead of their competitors. Our skill in achieving this is down to the talent and experience we have in the core team backed-up with access to world leading research and resources at both Swansea University for computer visualization and Cardiff University for computer vision.
Dr Iwan Griffiths
Director
Associate Professor and Chair of Innovation and Engagement Group in A-STEM (Applied Sport, Technology, Exercise and Medicine) Research Centre, School of Engineering at Swansea University. Director at SportsViz Ltd.
Iwan has a wide experience of physical science, biomechanics and the application of research methods to three dimensional object tracking, performance analysis and the physics of human movement. He has worked closely with the computer scientists at Swansea and Cardiff on innovative solutions for sports analysis (data visualization, computer vision, data mining) and has worked up commercial links with many sports governing bodies and other partners.
He has advised on the creation of many SportsViz apps and software tools involving for example, ball spin visualization, performance analysis and coaching apps.
